LONDON BECCA ACADEMY

Compact Concealer , 3g/ 0.1 oz compact

A true innovation in concealer technology.  BECCA’s Compact Concealer cleverly contains two highly pigmented formulations within one slim compact – Extra-cover and Medium-cover. Enabling layering and mixing, this ingenious product provides total camouflage for almost any skin problem including blemishes, scars, birthmarks and under eye circles.
An extensive range of 34 colours ensures the best skin colour match even when a heavy application is required, guaranteeing a traceless, natural finish
The medium-cover version is sheer and creamy- perfect for dark shadows in the under-eye area
The extra-cover version provides exceptional camouflage and adheres well to the skin
Contains anti-oxidants vitamins C and E
Free of chemical preservatives and parabens
Make-up Artist Tips:
Use the medium-cover version for broad coverage, including the under-eye area (apply as sheer a layer as possible here, as any makeup under the eyes tends to accentuate smile lines).
Use the extra-cover version for spots and blemishes that require heavy-duty coverage, as this formulation is more opaque and has a heavier, slightly drier consistency.
Target concealer to the required area by using a brush, then gently press into the skin using the fingertip in a rolling motion (use as little as possible and re-apply if heavier, additional coverage is required).
Always set with Fine Loose Finishing Powder to ensure concealer locks onto the skin for an all-day finish.
Apply with Concealer Brush #17, Spot Concealer Brush #32, or Eye Concealer Brush #33, depending on need.

Most BECCA products are paraben-free, however some of our products do contain parabens.

BECCA’s products which DO contain parabens include but are not limited to:
• Compact Pressed Powder
• Compact Eyeliner and Sealer
• Line & Illuminate Pencil
• Mineral SPF Primer
• Luminous Skin Colour

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics products. Chemically, parabens are esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. The most common parabens used in cosmetic products are methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben. Typically, more than one paraben is used in a product, and they are often used in combination with other types of preservatives to provide preservation against microbial growth, both to protect consumers and to maintain product integrity.

This year, the walk will be held at Jones Park on Monday May 1, 2010. It is a ten-mile walk, and participants- myself included- train for several months to be prepared for the event. In addition to training, all walkers must secure a minimum amount of pledges in order to participate in the event.
I am contacting you to ask if you would be willing to sponsor me with a tax deductible pledge. Any donation will help, and your support will help ensure that the J. smith Memorial Cancer Hospital will continue to be able to provide the care these women so desperately need.

Holiday Makeup How-to with Becca Cosmetics: Bronze Smokey Eye, Pink Cheeks and Lips

Perfect for the Office Holiday Par-tay

Why do they call office holiday get togethers “parties”? Everybody knows the only reason you show up is because you have to!
So, what do I do when I know I’ll be subjected to this farce o’ revelry? I buy a new dress to ease the pain a bit and work some fierce makeup, of course.
This year I plan to wear a bronze, gold and khaki smokey eye with punchy pink cheeks and lips. Lynn Furge, Becca cosmetics national artist and all around cool lady, created this look just for Makeup and Beauty Blog. Pretty, yah?

Skincare Ingredients to just say “No” to while Pregnant

There is no doubt that nowadays we are much more aware of what we put in and on the outside of our bodies, especially when it comes to skincare during pregnancy. I, myself have never had a little one growing inside of me, but with the recent news that my sister-in-law was pregnant, I wanted to make sure she and was informed.
Here are a few common skincare ingredients that you should be looking out for when pregnant:
Salicylic Acid
This ingredient is so common and easy to overlook, which is why, when you’re shopping for skincare during pregnancy, it’s important to look over the active ingredients as well as non-active. Oral forms of salicylic acid in high dosages have been shown to cause birth defects, a reason doctors remain cautious prescribing or recommending topical treatments containing salicylic acid during pregnancy.
Low doses of salicylic acid while pregnant in skincare are considered safe, it’s the body and face peels that are more reason for alarm.  Doctors have noted that these intensive peels are similar to taking one or more aspirin.
It should also be noted that salicylic acid is sometimes listed by another name: willow bark.
Retinol
A form of vitamin A, retinol is often used to help diminish the signs of aging, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines. It is highly revered as an anti-aging ingredient for its ability to speed up your skin’s regenerating process. Retinol is able to penetrate your skin—but some studies have suggested that, in large dosages, it can be harmful to a baby growing inside you.
Retinol is the main ingredient in powerful oral medications, like accutane, which is highly dangerous for an unborn child. However, topical retinol treatments have not been recorded as damaging an unborn child during pregnancy. In the end, it is probably wise to avoid these treatments, a minor precaution and alteration to your daily skincare routine.
Parabens
Parabens are used in topical skincare as a preservative, for an extended shelf-life. They can be found in major skincare products, cosmetics and hair products, which make navigating around them even more difficult.
Known to be potentially toxic, they can also lead to dermatitis, which causes dry, itchy areas of the skin and may only increase the application of products. Furthermore, studies show that parabens may lead to stimulating the growth of human breast-cancer cells.
In Conclusion:
It’s always good to be safe rather than sorry and stick to gentle formulations with natural ingredients, like Burt’s Bees who offers all-natural products for both the mom and baby. With the high demand for all-natural products, you won’t have any trouble altering your skincare routine to better fit you and your baby.

Reduce Redness with BECCA Skin Care

One of the most common problems that I see with lighter skinned clients is facial redness in one form or another. Some experience severe face redness or slight blushing, but it can be annoying to deal with no matter what. Not only is it a more noticeable annoyance but it can be painful as well. Redness can also come along with acne, inflammation, sensitive skin or dryness and affect self-esteem. With any of these conditions, it’s important to use the right ingredients and skin care regimen to help reduce redness to achieve fresh, gorgeous skin. That’s where Skin Medica’s skin care line comes in as your pinch hitter and we’ve tried the line out to give you the details on their suggested skin care 1,2,3.
Starting with BECCA's Facial Cleanser in the am or pm, this cleanser is great for dry, sensitive or post procedure skin. It’s a gentle foaming cleanser that will help thoroughly remove makeup, dirt and debris without damaging sensitive skin. I loved how creamy yet refreshing this cleanser is. It effectively removes makeup without dehydrating. Anything that dries out my skin, I’ll toss but this mild formula is just right.
Since gentle exfoliation is usually only about once a week for someone with rosacea, next to apply is the TNS Recovery Complex. Because the sun is a trigger for redness, this serum is made to repair and protect against sun damage. The red-like consistency of the serum might be a little strange to put on at first, but I think anyone who tries this will be pleasantly surprised. This gentle solution contains amino acids, antioxidants and proteins that aides the skin with its own natural repairing process. Supporting ingredients help repair blood vessels, reduce inflammation and encourage new cell growth  which are all imperative in helping reduce redness.  Not only is this great for redness but it’ll help improve your skin and help shrink fine lines and wrinkles for a healthy glow.
Anyone who has rosacea, redness or sensitive skin will always be on the hunt for calming and hydrating creams. Look no further, the Redness Relief CalmPlex is your knight in shining armor. Using this revolutionary moisturizer can relieve redness in as little as one week. Its unique ingredients target visible redness by treating underlying causes while calming and hydrating to produce radiant skin. Although, this may be a little heavy for someone with an oilier skin type, I’ve been in awe of this redness fighting moisturizer. Don’t forget your SPF! Another amazing one to pick up is BECCA Environmental Defense Sunscreen SPF 30. I’m currently obsessed with this SPF because of how light it feels on my skin and I feel like it’s helping my cold weather dry spots with the extra fragrance-free, UV protection. Paired with the Recovery Complex during the day, these two pack a powerful punch against redness.
Dermatologist founded and DermStore tested, this Skin Medica regimen is one to consider if you’re in the battle against redness.

Elizabeth Taylor’s beauty secrets

There are several beauty tips to acknowledge from past icons that can bring inspiration to your every day beauty routines.
Elizabeth Taylor, a two-time Oscar winner remains one of the most recognizable faces in the world. She made many famous movies and generously contributed to AIDS research yet her iconic beauty is something she will always be remembered for. As a beauty icon, her look, style and grace were one-of-a-kind. They can be imitated but never duplicated. Her beauty looks were legendary.

flickr source Music2MyEars

What makes a person iconic is their ability to inspire others. It is not only about having beauty on the outside, but also having the ability to reflect that beauty from the inside out. Here are a few lessons that we can walk away with thanks to the inspiration that some of our favorite beauty icons, such as Elizabeth Taylor have given us.
Enhance Your Beauty- Many people admired Elizabeth Taylor because she was a timeless beauty. With a perfect complexion, dark flowing hair, remarkable eyebrows, deep violet eyes and red lips, she embodied class, sophistication and style from the inside and out. With the proper makeup technique and products, you can easily recreate an
Elizabeth Taylor inspired makeup look.
Always Accessorize: Taylor’s jewelry collection has been given an estimated worth of over $150 million dollars. This is obviously not something we can all relate to, but what we can do is choose a piece or two that really represents who we are. Maybe it is a family heirloom or a gift from a special moment in your life, but whatever the sentiment, make it part of your signature style.
Accept your assets- Many beauty icons have followed in the footsteps of Elizabeth Taylor and they made the most of what they were given. Look at Angelina Jolie and her lips, or Cindy Crawford and her mole or Elizabeth Taylor with her double row of eyelashes and unique violet eyes. Even if sometimes we may view it as a flaw it could turn out to be our biggest beauty trademark. Often times the qualities that we wish we could cover up are what makes us unique and different. Instead of hiding it, highlight it. It’s all in the eye of the beholder and how it is portrayed.
Flaws can be beautiful too.
Be influential: Elizabeth defines trendsetting. She made everything stylish. Black Kohl eyeliner was all the rage after “Cleopatra.” While others may have stayed away from bold makeup, Taylor kept wearing her signature look;
deep red lipstick and dark eye liner in a slight cat-eye. The simple glamour of your eyes are best paired with red lips that Hollywood starlets have been trying to perfect for decades.
Give Back: Elizabeth became an activist on behalf of
AIDS/HIV research, long before it was fashionable to do so. She took a risk and started her own foundation and gave millions of dollars to programs around the world to fight against AIDS. Make sure to give back to the community in some way, it will not only make you look good, but it will make you feel good.

These are just a few of life’s lessons from the iconic Liz. Who is your ultimate
beauty icon?
